Temperance; a balancing of life. An angel with one foot in water and one foot out, baring two cups of water that flow into one another. A constant balance that is difficult to achieve and few can permanently sustain. Temperance represents not achieving balance but constantly striving for it.

Trying to balance life's many facets is pretty much impossible. But that doesnt mean we should allow our lives to fall into disarray, of course people already know this. Every person tries to balance their virtues and vices; often times allowing ourselves to indulge in one so that we can be satisfied and be at ease with ourselves. Temperance the self and be at whole.

Although I missed the previous instance due to unforeseen circumstances, I’ll still provide my two cents wherever possible.

Second Perspective:

Temperance involves balance, harmony and patience--while implying self-awareness, known desires, and ambition.

The reversed side of the card involves bias, dissonance and impulse, possibly warning one about the consequences of letting those vices run wild--including illness.

As for the angel that’s commonly depicted in the card, theories have been spun on who or what they represent; A personification of Temperance itself, Ganymede the Cup Bearer of the Gods, Iris the Goddess of Rainbows, even Saint Michael the Archangel. Though the theory of them being Iris is supported by the addition of a rainbow, and the Rider—Waite version of the card having iris flowers.
