Didn't like how the first version looked in 28x28, so I made the outlines stronger so that you can actually tell that's a cat with a heart. I also made a version without the background like you said, but it looks really weird to me if it cuts off on three sides but not the fourth.
Up to you in the end, though. Just tell me how you want it. :)
