Fun SNES Facts: The Super Nintendo did have a proper modem adapter. Released near the tail-end of the console's life, the XBAND allowed you to connect your console to a dial-up modem for LAN play. Certain games were then able to be played with other people on the network, including Mario Kart's battle mode, NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat II and 3 and the later Madden games. The only game that came with proper XBAND support was SNES Doom, which was the only console version of the era to feature a proper Deathmatch mode. There was also a version for the Genesis and the Saturn, which was Japan-only.
