Well, Kirby lore has been running rampant across these streams, so how about I contribute with a theory I read once? The defeat of Dark Nebula in Squeak Squad set off the Dark Matter invasion in Dream Land 2, 3, and The Crystal Shards. To start, Dark Nebula is listed in a Japanese-only Kirby art book to be part of the Dark Matter Invaders, so there's already a connection there. Another thing is that, in Japan, Dark Nebula's name is Dark Zero, much like the Zero we see in Dream Land 3. The theory goes that once Kirby defeated Dark Nebula, the dark stars forming his body that fall off at the end of the fight actually spread across the universe and form into Dark Matter, since we never actually see them get destroyed, and Dark Nebula's eye, upon explosion, undergoes regeneration to become Zero in Dream Land 3, and further juicing itself up on Dark Matter energy to become Zero Two, its perfect form, in The Crystal Shards. What helps the idea that Dark Nebula's dark stars morph into Dark Matter is that in a side mode of Kirby Mass Attack, Squeak Squad's spiritual successor that even brings back the Squeaks, Dark Matter's base, gelatinous form appears as a final boss. It could be stated, upon analyzing this, that Squeak Squad is the inciting incident that kickstarts the Dark Matter invasion, Mass Attack is the precursor to the full invasion, and Dream Land 2, 3, and The Crystal Shards are the events of the invasion taking place. ...Maybe Daroach should've just kept that chest shut.
