Since I see Kamen Rider Hibiki on the wall, I think it's time I start something new in the Booru; Gokai's Toku Crash Course, because I need to spread all my toku knowledge somehow.

So Kamen Rider Hibiki was meant to shake up the Heisei Era following declining ratings and toy sales. What ended up happening was Toei and Bandai took a planned revival of an old Shotaro Ishinomori toku series and retooled it into a Kamen Rider season. This resulted in a more experimental and artistic-looking season.

Unfortunately, underwhelming toy sales and high production caused Toei to fire the producer and screenwriters, which led to a significant change in tone. Allegedly this shakeup was so out of control that the final episode was being rewritten WHILE IT WAS BEING FILMED.

Because of this, Hibiki is seen as a very polarizing season, with fans split over which half of the show they prefer.

For a more in-depth look at the season, I refer you to my friend Marcosatsu, who did a “History of” video on Hibiki. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyrShkmLe58
